August Change Day 2024

August Change Day 2024 is scheduled for August 18, 2024. The following changes align with UTA’s Five Year Service Plan and consider current staffing levels, ridership patterns, and ongoing community needs.

Fare Changes

A new fare capping program will be implemented on FAREPAY Cards, setting a daily and weekly maximum fare.
The 20% discount on FAREPAY Cards will be eliminated. 
Income-based reduced fare eligibility will be expanded to 200% of the federal poverty level. 
Local fare will be implemented on UVX.

Why Fare Capping? 

Consistent Costs: Fare capping ensures you don’t pay more than a set amount each day and week, making transit costs predictable and fair.
Ride More, Save More: Once you reach the fare cap, every ride after that is free, encouraging you to use transit more often without worrying about extra costs.
Greater Accessibility: Fare capping makes public transit more affordable and accessible for the community.

FAREPAY
By replacing the 20% discount with the new fare capping program, we’ve eliminated the need to pay a large upfront cost for a monthly pass. You can load as little as $5 at a time and pay as you go. To learn more about FAREPAY and fare capping, click here.

Reduced Fare
We’ve expanded income eligibility for reduced fare from 150% to 200% of the federal poverty level. To find out if you qualify for reduced fare, click here.

UVX 
The decision to charge fare aligns UVX with UTA’s other transit modes, ensuring consistency across the UTA system and supports our ability to maintain and grow the transit network.

To keep to UVX’s express schedule, UVX will not accept cash payments or electronic fare cards on board. Riders can pre-pay fares using several methods: 

Eco and Ed Passes continue to ride with Zero Fare. Passes must be tapped on and off at the UVX platform
FAREPAY/Reduced Fare FAREPAY Cards must be tapped on and off at the UVX platform.
